Title: Stereotypes and Cliques

A.FIRE.INSIDE - October 2, 2007 10:45 PM (GMT)
We all know of them. Are you stereotyped? What do you think of stereotypes?

simplyatbliss - October 2, 2007 11:21 PM (GMT)
I'm Asian.
I'm "smart".
I like math.
I want to be a doctor.
I like computers.
I know web designs and computer graphics.
I play video games.
Oh yeah, I watch anime too.

†Setsuna† - October 3, 2007 04:40 AM (GMT)
I'm not in school anymore, but when I was I guess I was thought as

"emo" because of my clothing, because of the piercings, because of the hair.

B RoCK - October 3, 2007 05:03 AM (GMT)

Everything he said except doctor and web design / graphics.
I am mostly the gamer stereotype though. I think everyone stereotypes or at least has an idea of one because of the masses that just overwhelm the minority.

A.FIRE.INSIDE - October 3, 2007 05:50 PM (GMT)
For myself, I get stereotypes as "emo" because I write poetry, where slip ons, tight jeans and a lot of black and because of my hairstyle. It annoys me, because I dressed this way since I was 12 - when I never heard the word "emo" before.

Yuffie - October 3, 2007 06:11 PM (GMT)
Emo.
Goth.
/ect, ect.

I'm aware I wear the style, but whatever. I wear what I think looks nice to me, and most of this is black shirts, tight jeans and vans/converse.

ChimeraTech - October 3, 2007 06:28 PM (GMT)
Eh..I've never really been stereotyped..I guess I could be stereotyped as a Gamer.

Same situation with me.

Akane - October 4, 2007 09:35 PM (GMT)
...What am I?
Asian? XD

..no..
I hate math.
I'm not going to be a doctor.
I do play games.
I watch anime.
I read manga.
I only know basic html and somewhat decent at GFX.
I can't "build" my own computer, nonetheless know a lot about one
other than shortcuts and all that basic standard stuff.

When I used to be in high school
everyone complimented me on my clothes,
however,
questioned me as to why I wore
such "interesting" clothes.
A fairy. Gothic Lolita. Lawyer.
...What the hell stereotype am I?
Cosplayer?! XD

Omega - October 5, 2007 04:33 PM (GMT)
I don't believe I am stereotyped, though I tend to call myself a nerd at some points, but I mostly call myself a gamer.

*trails off to play Halo 3 more*

{AQA}Xarina - October 5, 2007 07:30 PM (GMT)
I don't think I'm stereotyped.

I am swedish, brunette and 19.

I game i do GFX.

I am not a faraid to get into a fight if the situation needed it.

My best friends call me a cool geek

^^most of my friends are blonde btw.

sparklynshiney - October 6, 2007 11:48 PM (GMT)
well, i was a blonde. people always consider blondes "dumb" so thats one i guess.

i was in band, so i guess i was a band geek.

Marasai - October 7, 2007 05:14 AM (GMT)
As far as I know I was never really considered anything. As for my own thoughts, people are people and I don't label them.

Zunder - October 26, 2007 03:16 PM (GMT)
I get sterotyped as a Chav.. even though I am far smarter. I wear what I want but sometimes other people's clothes can influence what you wear.

fearless freak - October 26, 2007 03:20 PM (GMT)
i'm sterotyped as a 'dirty mosher' i listen to a wide variety of music, even folk music

Stetekai - December 18, 2007 04:06 PM (GMT)
not sure what i'd be stereotyped as.

maybe Fearless could help me on this one :D

Chalchihuitlicue - December 18, 2007 05:07 PM (GMT)
For a long time, I was stereotyped as the "shy girl". Now I don't know what I am. The Cosplayer, maybe? XD

cornflakes - December 18, 2007 06:12 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I'm always stereotyped as the bookworm, the 'straight man', which annoys me a little. Sometimes.

I don't think stereotypes are neccesarily bad, though. It's just a way of categorizing people, so long as we don't become so obsessed with the stereotype that we forget the person.

Edel Weiss. - December 20, 2007 03:27 PM (GMT)
Hrm...

I don't listen to them
I don't need them
They are a waste of my time
I don't need to be bother by things that doesn't affect my life
I am my own person
I dont give two shits about Stereotypes

Poptart - December 20, 2007 03:30 PM (GMT)
i think people consider me as the stereotypical "nerd"

I'm smart
i wear glasses
i'm not smart
i don't really talk to people except online
i play videogames almost all the time
i'm intimidated easily
people don't work when they're in a group with me, they make me do the work.
i've got braces

Misha-san - December 21, 2007 01:09 AM (GMT)
I'm a Nerd. Yeah, 1000% nerd. ^^

Mangaman - December 22, 2007 06:52 AM (GMT)
I don't think I really fit into any one stereotype. I am Christian but my friends are Atheists, Wiccans, other Christians, and one of my friends is in the Church of Satan.

I love manga, anime, and build computers.
I wear glasses.
Everything else pretty well changes.

I can't really categorize myself. The fun part is letting someone else make the attempt and laughing at them when they are wrong.

The only category of people who disturb me are the ones who believe they know everything. You cannot tell them anything. A closed mind is a dark and scary place.

TwilightZekk - December 24, 2007 03:25 AM (GMT)
Sadly, I don't know what I'm stereotyped as. I'm not in the "smart kid's" group; I'm not with the "gamer's" group; I'm not in the "theater" group; and I'm not in the athletic, gangsta, emo, popular groups, yet I have friends in all of the above groups.

I would like to say I'm unique, but the sad fact is that since everyone is unique, using the word unique just ties me more to a group.

Misha-san - December 24, 2007 09:59 PM (GMT)
I'm in the "Christian" Stereotype.....

WE ARE NOT HOLY ROLLERS SO SHUT IT CHRISTIAN HATERS.
-.-

Mangaman - December 25, 2007 10:08 PM (GMT)
Do stereotypes really exist? Or are they simply easy labels created by people too lazy to think for themselves?

Vivian - December 27, 2007 12:35 AM (GMT)
Some stereotypies exist for a reason though. I mean there is some sort of truth to it,if it's untwisted.

Edel Weiss. - December 27, 2007 12:44 AM (GMT)
It' not truth actually. It just someone saying and people decided to go with it. Because they want to be it. And so it did. I don't believe it's truth. Or facts. People just became because they want to fit in something then nothing.

I don't claim anything. I liek anime, I like games, I like computers and graphic. I like school and work. Doesn't make me an anime freak, game freak, computer nerd, ot workacholic. Just because I like them doesnt give any people to label me as them, because I don't need to label myself to make me happy. Just because someone like doing it, doesnt mean they are it.

I don't believe in a god, but I dont claim that I am an athiest.
because I don't put myself into a catergory where other people do. I like my life as what i want to and what I want to be.

No one can define me. yea label me whatever you want. But I don't care. =] because I can live free without the stress or knowning that somepeople care wayyy to damn much about it.

Unfortunately, many people fall into the trap of the "I don't belong to a stereotype/clique/niche" stereotype. For instance, my cousin who claims that he is 100% individual, 100% nonconformist, and 100% non-stereotypical. Well, okay, but that just means he's joined the other thousands of kids who label themselves as such.

Stereotypes are always going to exist. claims of "diversity" and "individuality" don't really mean anything nowadays.

I never said that it was never going to stop. I just don't put myself in one, because i don't feel like I need to. Of course I am 100% aware that I am in this thing, but I really don't care.

I don't make it the truth for me, if other people want to make it a truth for them they could. but I am not going to live a life where I need to fit into something just to be happy with myself.

Cool, kudos for posting. I don't mind reading what other people have to say.

Silvereye - February 18, 2008 01:53 AM (GMT)
I fit into the "average member of RelicNews" stereotype. A gamer who would spend all his time playing games if he could, an atheist, and often says thing no normal person can understand. No others that I can think of.

O'Shovah - February 18, 2008 02:02 AM (GMT)
lol Stereotypes

People don't have the guts or the knowledge to put me in a category, but I consider myself a loner.

Silvereye - February 18, 2008 02:11 AM (GMT)
Yes! Loner, that's the other one.

Nemo - April 27, 2008 11:02 PM (GMT)
Yup. I had quite a few stereotypes going through my middle school years. I dressed dark, with Tripp pants and such, and was very quiet for the earlier years. Later years I began to dress more mainstream, with a little hint of that old fashion. Inside though, I was always a nerd. One can't love video games, fantasy books, and computers and not be. I was also a loner too for a while when my best friend moved away. But I jumped into another little "clique" that really has no label.

All in all, they're silly and labels are meant for soup cans. D<

DarkAngell - May 18, 2008 04:36 AM (GMT)
uhh, this person thought i was emo ...
because i wear dark colors, XD?
it was rather sad,
labels are pretty stupid,
however they don't really affect me.
i mean you shouldn't really let it bother you.
people can think of you however they want,
but as long as you know it's not true that's enough (for me at least).
the only thing that is really annoying is that when,
maybe you do something that you don't normally do,
and then EVERYONE is all over you thinking you're emo or something.
