these are mine

QUOTE
I'm tired of this back-slapping "Isn't humanity neat?" bullshit. We're a virus with shoes, okay? That's all we are.

We all pay for life with death, so everything in between should be free.

The world is like a ride in an amusement park. And when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly coloured and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time and they begin to question: "Is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, "Hey, don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride." And we kill those people.

It's just a ride and we can change it any time we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money, a choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your door, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one.

oh and by the way I don't mean to sound bitter, cold, or cruel, but I am, so that's how it comes out.

you think to much.

We exist to procreate like everything else.

I'm happy if i can make lots of friends and generally not become emo, being filthy rich wouldn't hurt either :P

btw, i hate rollercoasters. i can ride a plane 35,000ft in the air but not a coaster...
why is that? ^^

Probably commonsense. Several people have been injured or died recently due to problems with thrill rides. The chances of being hurt on an airplane are far lower.

My view on life is this:
You only have one shot in this, so better not shoot yourself.

I think that we need to aim our lives around something, or else we waste it.

When i look at humanity and how far we've come it reminds me alot of a virus. Were a virus and earth is our host we take what we think we need and do what we think we need to do to survive without planning ahead or looking at the consequences. Sooner or later we are going to destroy ourselves.

Yeah life is like a box of chocolate you dont know what you are going get. And plus you have choices to choose from and how to take them.

People are stupid, and do stupid things. Outsmart them. Si vic Pacem, para bellum.

Those are the two sayings that I live by.

I always mess up the first two words. Thanks. ^^;;

which translated means 'If You Want Peace, You Must Prepare For War'

Life is only what you make it. That what I think about it. Then again if you beleive in destiny, then life is what it's set to be or something like that. I don't believe in fate, so I would go with the first one, so... you know.

In a nutshel, life sucks. There was a post about this on another forum, hang on while I look it up... Got it. "What is your purpose in life". Not quite the same, put similar enough for me. There were a lot, so I'll post the ones that most suit me rather than all of them.

QUOTE (Vaarok)
Survive to breed. Repeat.

QUOTE (Capa)
What drives me is generally food, water and the scant possibility of pleasure. Being alive isn't poetic or heroic, and it isn't a philosophical choice, it's the default state.

QUOTE (SquidDNA)
Capa puts it well.

QUOTE (trash.the.ego)
What Capa said + more ******.

And that's just the first page.

In atheism, there is no purpose in life. Atheism robs life of all value. You can invent purposes [such as breeding or love], but in the end, it doesn't matter.

Though for the religious, the meaning of life is to prepare for the next.

Nihilism believes that life has no purpose, not atheism. Atheism is no belief in a deity, not that there's no purpose in life. For having a username like "The Philosopher" you need to work on your terminology. They're two separate things. Yes, Nietzsche was an atheist, and you could be two things as once. But it doesn't mean all atheists are nihilists and vice-versa.

Atheism doesn't rob my value of life at all. And I can invent purpose, but purpose also just makes up myself. Family is not an invention I just made up. My life's purpose is partly due to my family. There's more to life than just religion. There's evolution, progress, family, community, happiness, interaction, reproduce, sports, art, feeling 'alive'. I didn't invent any of these in my head. All of these are basic things people feel a sense of purpose for.

There's a lot of atheists in the world, so I don't see how all of them (or the majority) have false purposes. To list a few, there's Lance Armstrong, Penn & Teller, Isaac Asimov, Mark Twain, and Kurt Vonnegut. All of which, I don't believe they just have false purposes.

I wasn't going to respond to this topic, but I read your post and had to correct some arguments. I don't know how many atheists you have met nor your past experiences with atheists, but as an atheist and a person that has many atheist friends I think your argument (though you may mean well) is fairly shallow. Religion might make up your purpose, but it doesn't have to be the only thing that matters. I'm pretty happy, and it's not fake.

My view at the moment, "Choose life." Yay, Trainspotting.

Drgnmastr_Alex - March 1, 2008 09:30 AM (GMT)
My view is to just keep moving forward.

Crap happens. It'll continue to happen, but that doesn't mean you can't find a way to enjoy life in some way, and improve on yourself as you go along.
