Title: Does beauty affect one's success in life?

I personally don't think so. In the long run, that person will suffers from something because of something. But then again (my opinion) I live in America, and they love to portray us as skinny healthy(as in seriously anorexic), smart people who smile alot and love work because they are pretty >_>

Sometimes it could, but I don't think it's the biggest key to success.

It depends on what you are up against. In some situations you are faced with people who are looking for beauty, in my opinion the wrong kind of beauty. In other cases people are looking for someone with the personality and ability to be successful on their own. I feel however that those people who get by on the way they look can only be successful for a temporary time. The outer looks aren't something to support your whole lifestyle. In the end they won't last forever. I personally don't base anything on what some may call "beautiful". I find beauty in other areas.

Yeah it is. It's everywhere we go. In the newpapers, on tv. Its everywhere. I mean beauty is a must. You dont see any fat people on covers of magazine or on tv doing a very lame commercial eh.

The things is that it'severywhere and you cannot stop it. Yes you can ignore it. It wont effect everyone, but only those who want to make it in the music or acting departments. It's all about the looks =]

Beauty is all in how you think of yourself. Even the ugliest person can be beautiful to someone (Note Flava Flav...). If you believe, then you are. There is no excute not to be success no matter what you look like and the people who dare to just is only looking for people that look good for sex and waaay out of their league, aka patetic lowlives.

Beauty is sometimes a double edged sword. I believe everyone is unique and beautiful, but society just distorts this positive views into a standard where everyone must have. Those who do have the "standards" can benefit from many things the non-conformists don't have (such as beautiful people are considered smarter, happier, and insert imaginary claim that trumps the average person). But then again those "standards" force them to keep up with it or lose the perks.

That is exactly what i would have said!

Does it? Shure it does! Is it the end all to be all key to success? Probably not lol.

I think every part of us that the inner and outer appearance and emotions of oneself matters.

We were made not just with a body to be judged, but a body with feelings, voice, opinions, talents, devotions, and not just beauty.

To me, beauty should not be judged negatively, one of the reasons of suicide is the judging of appearance. Everyone always saying and demanding how they should look like, to what they wear, or to what they wear on the body. Which makes them feel that they have never been good enough.

Judging of appearance is a big issue and sometimes people take it to far.

Appearance can be a really tricky issue.

It should be told, not judged. And it shouldn't affect ones success. Success relies on actions and what one person achieves.

You'll only succeed in shallow love/life. Beauty is one thing, being honest and having a deep personality is another, the personality one will get you much further.

Yes - thats why fat chicks are always on benefits.

Depends on what you think success means. I do see that more beautiful people are treated better than non-beautiful people. Kinda sad.

Megume - March 15, 2008 07:35 PM (GMT)
It's sad but true, people get a first impression of you in the first 3 seconds of meeting you. Looks play a major part of that. So I guess....just don't let yourself go *shrugs*

I've thought about this a bit more.

I think whether a person who isn't considered beautiful succeeds or doesn't depends on the type of person he/she is.
If the person doesn't let the non-beauty get to them, then the person will have just as much a chance of succeeding as a beautiful person.
If the person lets the non-beauty get to them to point where it severely affects self-esteem, then of course there'll be a problem.

I think a good example of beauty NOT being entailed with one's success is Bill Gates.

I think it's very important to measure one's ambitions, drive, and abilities before throwing looks into the mix.
